Introduction and concept of the Project:
There are a number of herbal gardens available in India. However, there is no system for getting information of these nationwide dispersed herbal gardens. Hence this web based networking of herbal gardens of India being designed and maintained to compile and provide online data base information on medicinal plants gardens existing in India. Also it is developed to maintain a conservatory of not only the most common and important species of medicinal and aromatic plants which are being used in day-to-day primary health care but also take care of those species which are under various degrees of threats in India. This online network provides access to the common people de-centralized information of the herbal gardens of India.
Objectives of the Project:
- To develop a national herbal garden network
- Strengthen the Ex situ Conservation activities of Medicinal & Aromatic plants of India
- Provide access to quality planting material of MAP
Activities of the Project:
- Identification of the locations of herbal gardens in India
- Construction of a herbal garden network and link up all the herbal garden to this net
- Data-base development & maintenance of number of species, availability of planting material, quantity of the available planting material, cost of planting material, etc., from different herbal gardens of India
- Designing & development of web based software package
- Online information about the herbal gardens and facilitate the exchange of medicinal species among the member herbal gardens within the country
