Palmarosa  
(Cymbopogon martinii Stapf. var. motia)

Uses: Its aromatic oil used in perfumery, soaps,  detergents, cosmetics & blending of tobacco products.

Parts Used: Inflorescences, leaves (whole plants)

Active Ingredients: Gereniol (75-90%) 

Cultural Practices:  

¨      Season:  Kharif

¨      Propagation: Seeds,  Seed sowing – April-May,  Transplanting – June-August

¨      Spacing: 45x30cm or 60x60cm depending upon soil fertility and climatic condition

¨      Varieties: Rosha Grass 49, CI-80-68

¨      Manures & Fertilizer: 75 Kg N, 40 kg P2O5 & 40 Kg K2O as optimum for  three harvest. Half N + full P & K as basal and rest half N in three split dosages after harvest.

¨      I.N.M.: FYM @10t/ha, N&P each @20kg/ha and Azospirilliumm or Azotobacter favoured higher productivity and oil yield.

¨      Irrigation: Frequent light irrigation are required during rain free period.

¨      Harvesting: Crop is harvested 10-15cm above the ground level.  In first year  2-3  harvests and in subsequent years 3-4 harvests are taken.

¨      Yield: 80 kg/ha average oil yield from rainfed crop, 220-250 kg/ha oil yield from irrigated crop starting from second year.
